Roamin' the Range: Nelson’s Old Town Car Show, Wellington Harvest Day

It’s September, that lovely month when temperatures drop and activities are on the upswing. The fall entertainment calendar is a busy one, so take advantage of these wonderful offerings in your community.

At the FCMA

The Fort Collins Museum of Art currently has an exhibition of 58 paintings and drawings from the collection of philanthropist James F. Dicke II. The exhibition features works made between 2000 and 2010. Highlights include major paintings by artists such as Philip Pearlstein, Sean Scully, Richard Prince and Alex Katz. Nelson’s Old Town Car Show

Sept. 10 is the date of the annual Nelsen’s Old Town Car Show featuring a wide variety of cars and trucks. Hot rods, custom cars, muscle cars and classic cars and motorcycles will be on display in the Old Town area, and attendees may vote on their favorite entries. Wellington Harvest Day

An inaugural event, Harvest Day in Wellington, will take place Sept. 10 and includes a variety of activities for the entire family. The day will begin with the Harvest Farm Fall Festival 5k run/walk, kicking off the farm’s annual harvest festival. Registration for the run/walk begins at 7 a.m. at the farm, 4240 E. County Road 66 north of Wellington. Or, register online at www.runningguru.com/EventInformation. The NoCo Truck Pullers will put on a truck and tractor pull, plus lawn mower races, beginning at 8 a.m. off County road 7, one block north of Washington Avenue. Later in the day, the Community Activities Commission will sponsor a craft show and farmers market from noon to 4 p.m. in Centennial Park, and the group will also host a “Movie in the Park” at 7:30 p.m. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy “Toy Story 3.” Donations will be accepted for the Wellington Food Bank. Memorial car show

The Bill Thompson Memorial Car and Engines Show will be held Sept. 10, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the LaPorte Hardware parking lot. Car and truck enthusiasts may bring cars, antique motorcycles, tractors, hit and miss engines and other unique items. There is no entry fee. Bill Thompson, an antique car collector and co-owner of LaPorte Hardware & Variety with his wife Cathy, died July 3. Info: 970-484-0466 or 970-482-4706.

Historic homes

The annual Historic Homes Tour in Fort Collins takes place Sept. 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. “New Living in Old Town” will feature six eastside and Westside neighborhood homes as well as the 1879 Avery House, the 1882-1883 Fort Collins Water Works and the newly remodeled Lincoln Center. Homes selected for this year’s tour have retained their historic character while being modified to meet the needs of modern-day occupants. Tickets: $20 in advance, $25 on day of event. Patriot’s Day Concert

The second annual Patriot’s Day Concert, honoring all veterans, is slated for Sept. 10, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Hideout, 1903 E. Lincoln Ave. All proceeds will benefit the Northern Colorado Veterans Plaza in southwest Fort Collins, where walls with touch-activated screens will list veterans from various wars. The plaza also includes a soil garden with soils from battlefields around the world. Admission: $5; includes burger, chips and beer.

Sept. 11 anniversary

The first responder agencies in Larimer County are holding a Sept. 11 Tenth Anniversary Remembrance Event on Sept. 11 at Civic Center Park in Fort Collins. The event will commemorate the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. Included will be first responder honor guards, bagpipers and speeches. Info: 970-416-2867 or [email protected].

Vintage baseball

The annual Vintage Baseball Game at the Bee Family Centennial Farm Museum will get underway on Sept. 17 at 1:30 a.m. The Berthoud Blues will challenge the Wellington Buzzards, using 1864 rules and uniforms. Come early to enjoy tours of the farm, antique vehicles of the Nash Car Club, children’s activities and a jazz combo at 12:15 p.m. The farm is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Location: 4320 E. Cemetery Stroll

The annual Cemetery Stroll, an entertaining look back into the history of the area, is planned for Sept. 17 at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins. Two performances, at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., will feature volunteer actors doing portrayals of people buried in the cemetery. This year’s theme is “Valuing Veterans: Service and Sacrifice.” It marks the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War and the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Seven Fort Collins veterans from five past conflicts, including George Beach from World War I, will be portrayed. Proceeds from the stroll benefit the Fort Collins Senior Center. Tickets: adults, $6; children 12 and younger, $3. Tickets may be purchased at the senior center or, if still available, at the cemetery on Sept. 17.

Sustainable Fair

The annual Sustainable Living Fair is set for Sept. 17 and 18 at Legacy Park, 300 Woodlawn Drive in Fort Collins. The event will showcase sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, alternative transportation, green building and more, with four keynote speakers and 250 exhibitors. The fair is open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission: $8 per day; children 12 and under, free. Info: www.SustainableLivingFair.org.
