The fall theatre season is upon us and Poudre High School thespians are starting it off with a sure-to-please performance of The Addams Family starting at midnight on Oct. 31, Halloween night. If midnight performances aren’t your cup of tea, no worries. This talented group will also perform at 7 p.m. on Nov. 1 and Thursday and Friday, Nov. 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. and end the show’s run with a matinee at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 8. This is the first performance of The Addams Family by a high school group in the state. Director Joel Smith has created a program whose participants have won awards at the state Thespian Festival and the International Thespian Festival. High school students also design and make the costumes. Debut Theatre Company of Fort Collins gets into the Halloween act with performances of The Canterville Ghost Oct. 17 through 25 at the Lincoln Center Magnolia Theatre, 417 W. Magnolia in Fort Collins. A beloved Oscar Wilde tale about life and death and why love is stronger than both is appropriate for audiences of all ages. Fourteen local artists have their work on display at the Bas Bleu Theatre Gallery, 401 Pine St. in Fort Collins, in recognition of the fiftieth anniversary of the Wilderness Act. It was painting and photography that began the groundswell for the preservation of wild lands in America. The Wilderness Act set aside more than 9 million acres of federal land to be forever protected from development. In 50 years the number has grown to 110 million acres, more than 3.5 million of which are in Colorado. The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday, 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., Sat. 1-4 p.m.. Closed Mondays. The shows runs through Oct. 31 with a first Friday reception 5-7 p.m., Oct. 3.

Six Buddhist Gomang monks will spend time in Fort Collins Oct. 8-12 during a Sacred Arts Tour. They bring ancient teachings that create the possibility of global peace, non-violent conflict resolution, wisdom and compassion. The monks will create a peace sand mandala designed by the Dalai Lama and offer authentic Tibetan craft items at Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures, 200 W. Mountain Ave., Fort Collins. Their appearances are as follows: Oct. 8, 3 p.m. opening ceremony and blessing at Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures. Oct.9-11, creation of the sand mandala at the museum. The city of Fort Collins Recreation Department has a whole menu of fun fall activities for children during October. They range from hayrides and trick or treat experiences for kids and dogs to a Hogwarts Halloween celebration and a pumpkin patch. Most activities are at The Farm at Lee Martinez Park.
