You can meet the artists behind the painted pianos scattered around downtown Fort Collins this Saturday, Dec. 17, from 1 to 3 p.m., at a holiday open house hosted by the Bohemian Foundation.
The event will held on the main floor of the foundation’s Mitchell Block Building at the corner of Mountain and Walnut streets. It will feature not only nine of the project’s colorfully decorated and completely playable pianos with their artists, but also an interactive installation with Stan Scott.
Scott will be painting a piano-themed mural during the open house and explaining his creative process to visitors while he works. To add to the festivities, local musicians will be playing the piano next to the nearby Old Town Square Ice Rink.
During the winter months, the pianos will be on view in the windows at the Mitchell Block. Several will also be available for outdoor playing at the ice rink; Oak Street Plaza; Tenney Alley just north of West Mountain Avenue; the Lyric Cinema Café on East Mountain Avenue, Specialties in Old Town Square and at the Foothills Mall.
More than a dozen painted pianos have been rotated around Fort Collins since the project was launched during the 2010 holiday season.
