Sex and the Choice City: Save the Tablas!

I just turned 40. I feel it’s a good time to reflect and write about the things I’m really proud of. Seriously, I was not expecting to look this good at the “half way point” of my life… unlike TONS of women that are walking around our Choice City streets, I have had absolutely NO work done to my body and I manage to maintain awesomeness with diligence and effort. I think I’ve earned the right to finally say it: “Come on, ladies! Whatever happened to the days of just walking around the block, putting on makeup and eating some oatmeal? Is it easier to just have a doctor fix you because you’re too indolent to do it yourself?”
Save the Tablas
I’ve never colored my hair (as of yet), received Botox or gone under the knife for vanity. I’m in my forties, I’ve popped out two kids, I haven’t had plastic
surgery and I’m rockin’ it like I’m 30 – suck it, I’m posting some selfies! Granted, it may be a combination of some freak genetics, a high anti-oxidant rich diet and lots of good sex. No doubt, it’s all of the above and it’s not a secret.
Don’t get me wrong; I still frequent ButterCream Cupcakery to maintain a curvy backside and a happy tummy. There is nothing wrong with treating yourself and doing what you like every now and then. But, a boob job – tummy tuck – facelift, really? For some of you, your “best friend” told me what you had done… for others, it’s just blatantly obvious. To all the Choice City women: I beg you to preserve the natural look! Put some energy into it and kick up those heels. Yes. Wear heels when you can and take everything with a grain of salt. Trust me, it helps.
Music has absolutely guided me into this new decade. I encourage everyone out there to experience the mind-blowing sensation of Indian music and support this ancient art form. My friend, Ty Burhoe, plays the North Indian hand drums call Tabla. He is performing at Om Ananda Yoga studio on January 16 alongside flute master Steve Gorn. Visit omanandayoga.com or tyburhoe.com for details and ticket purchasing. The swiftness and accuracy with which Ty can move his fingers is utterly miraculous and must be witnessed in person!
Hey, someone just told me I have the whitest teeth for such a dirty mouth. I take that as a compliment.
Malini Bartels is a freelancer in Fort Collins. Those are not her Tablas in the picture.
The tablas in this photo are real and they’re spectacular.
