Slash Solutions helps with beetle epidemic

In the wake of the pine beetle epidemic, a group of local property owners have joined together to form Slash Solutions, LLC. The partners will fund and manage a slash and timber disposal site in Red Feather Lakes, at the site of the previous Larimer County sort yard on County Road 73C.

In less than 60 days, this group has made significant progress in implementing a cost-effective, efficient and environmentally sensitive solution to forest product disposal. For a reasonable fee, the company will accept deliveries and use an Air Burner to dispose of slash, logs and stumps.

Slash Solutions, LLC plans to open to the public by mid-August. The site is leased, and the property owners have been “extremely supportive” of the new effort, according to Shirley Pfankuch, one of the managers.

Crystal Lakes, Red Feather Lakes, Glacier View Meadows and other communities have suffered a devastating loss of healthy forests from the pine beetle epidemic, and dead trees ultimately increase wildfire risk. “Residents of these communities have found themselves without safe and affordable local options for disposal,” said Shirley. “As fellow property owners, we will strive to make a difference that benefits everyone as we work with you, our neighbors.”
The partners invite property owners with beetle-killed trees to support this community-owned enterprise. People may visit the frequently updated web site, www.slashsolutionsllc.com, to learn more about the company and various options for protecting properties from both the mountain pine beetle and wildfire.

Referrals for slash hauling are also available. For more information about Slash Solutions, LLC, call 970-881-3737.
