Runners, to your barks.
The Fast and the Furriest, a 5K run/walk for humans and their furry friends that benefits the Companion Care Fund at Colorado State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital, returns to CSU at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 26.
The 11th annual event, which is open to individuals and pets of all ages and abilities, begins at the CSU Oval and follows a course on campus.
In addition to a variety of pet prizes, awards will be given for the top three male and female finishers overall, and for the top male and female with pet. An expo will be held afterwards, featuring booths offering vendor demonstrations, free samples and kids’ activities like face painting and music.
The cost is $25 for those who register before midnight on Wednesday, April 23, and $30 before midnight on Friday, April 25. The registration fee will be $35 the day of the event. All participants will receive a T-shirt (nonparticipants can buy shirts for $10.) There will also be a free 1K fun run for children (kids’ T-shirts are $7).
The event is organized by students in the Professional Veterinary Medicine program in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at CSU. Proceeds from the Fast and the Furriest benefit animals in need of emergency treatments through the Companion Care Fund, which helps community members who have financial need pay for treatment at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital they would otherwise not be able to afford. A portion of the proceeds will help the local community by providing scholarships through the PVM Class of 2015 and 2017 Scholarship Fund.
