The Symbols – A CD

2 stars

The Symbols are simple. This is definitely not a complex band by any means. They’d be perfect to hire for a wedding reception. With their third EP, A CD, The Symbols don’t burst out of the gate with a vengeance, more like a slow trot. It’s kind of bluesy, with and hint of pop and a dash of rock sprinkled throughout the EP. “There’s a Change Comin’” is pretty mellow. That’s about all you get for lyrics. Jasco rocks it out on the guitar though, sort of like Carlos Santana. “Shake It Again” is a sequel from the first EP, and though it’s not much different, the
first version was better. Lead chick, Mer Sal saves the EP from an otherwise unimaginative release – hence the title and the first song: “A Song” – with her amazing voice. It’s incredible and smooth and belty. Check it out at thesymbols.net.
