The Colorado Department of Transportation will be facilitating highway closures in both directions of State Highway 1 in Wellington beginning December 17 at 9 a.m. The closures are in coordination with railroad repairs by the town of Wellington and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. CDOT is only facilitating the closure, not performing the work.
On Monday, December 17, the highway will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Then, beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18 and lasting until 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, the highway will be fully closed while repairs are underway. CDOT will patch the highway as necessary to make the transition over the tracks as smooth as possible. While the highway is fully closed, motorists will be directed to use detours, and should expect delays of 10 minutes through the area.
