Wellington Veterinary Clinic finalist for AAHA Practice of the Year

Wellington Veterinary Clinic is a finalist for the American Animal Hospital Association Practice of the Year award. The AAHA provides accreditation to 3,200 veterinary clinics across the United States.

The third annual award recognizes and celebrates the outstanding achievements of accredited veterinary practice teams. Each entry was evaluated using recent AAHA accreditation scores, mission and vision, practice design, practice team composition, continuing education and training, community service and compliance improvement efforts.

Finalists include:
•Wellington Veterinary Clinic
•Animal Hospital of Nashua, New Hampshire
•Austinburg Veterinary Clinic of Austinburg, Ohio
•Cat’s Corner Veterinary Hospital of Southbury, Connecticut
•Swedesboro Animal Hospital/Tri-State Animal Emergency Center of Woolwich Township, New Jersey

The AAHA will present the award during its yearly conference opening session in Denver on March 15.

“AAHA believes that the success of a veterinary practice depends on the entire team working together to provide excellent care for pets and their people,” said AAHA Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Mike Cavanaugh, DVM, DABVP. “The practices selected as our finalists are staffed by high-performing veterinary teams who demonstrate a passionate commitment to veterinary excellence.”

Accreditation is a voluntary commitment practices make to their clients and patients, and AAHA is the only organization in North America that accredits companion animal hospitals based on standards greater than state regulations. The AAHA Standards of Accreditation contain more than 900 individual standards, divided into 18 major sections.These areas of focus include patient care and pain management, surgery, pharmacy, laboratory, exam facilities, medical records, cleanliness, emergency services, dental care, diagnostic imaging, anesthesiology, and continuing education.

Only 15 percent of all small animal hospitals in the U.S. have achieved AAHA accreditation. To maintain accredited status, these must continue to be evaluated regularly by AAHA.
