Celebrating the music of David Grisman and Jerry Garcia through a dynamic live performance
Fort Collins will host an evening of deeply rooted American acoustic music when the Sam Grisman Project takes the stage at the Fort Collins Armory on April 9.
The performance, led by bassist Sam Grisman, honors the musical legacy of his father, David “Dawg” Grisman, and longtime collaborator Jerry Garcia. Known for blending tradition with improvisation, the ensemble delivers an intimate concert experience centered around acoustic instruments and shared musical storytelling.
The Sam Grisman Project is a rotating collective of accomplished musicians, drawing from a wide pool of instrumentalists across guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, and more. Their sets feature a mix of Garcia/Hunter classics, Dawg music, Bob Dylan selections, traditional tunes, and original compositions. Each performance is unique, shaped by the musicians on stage and the connection with the audience.
Grisman grew up surrounded by influential artists such as Doc Watson, John Hartford, and Tony Rice, experiences that shaped both his musical direction and the mission behind the project. The group emphasizes not just performance, but preservation and evolution of a genre that continues to influence generations.
Audiences can expect a fully acoustic show performed into condenser microphones, creating a warm and immersive listening environment. Attendees are encouraged to enjoy the music attentively, preserving the integrity of the performance.
