HOPPY VALENTINE’S DAY: TAKE YOUR DATE ON A BREW CRAWL

Valentine’s Day probably has you conjuring
thoughts of love, roses, chocolate
and other sappy stuff. That’s all well and
good, but for some of us, this Hallmark
holiday is better known as “Singles Awareness
Day.” But it’s ok, because there is always beer!
Whether you’re madly in love or bitterly single,
there are plenty of places to celebrate the
season of love. I suggest spending your Valentine’s
Saturday on a Brew Crawl! Celebrate
your love of beer by hitting some local spots.
Horse & Dragon will be tapping a firkin of
their Whistle Blast Honey Brown Ale with tart
cherry, and invite FoCo-ians to “bring your
sweetheart, meet one here, or just enjoy an
awesome beer with those of us staffing the
tap room!”
And, appropriate to their name, Horse &
Dragon also plans on celebrating The Year of
the Sheep on February 19. Celebrations begin
on the Chinese New Year, and will continue
through that weekend. Stop by and visit with
these awesome brewers and most delicious
beers.
How long has it been since you’ve been to
Equinox? Well, you’d better get on that. The
brewery has expanded beautifully and boasts
a fantastic date environment with wonderful
lighting and a cozy “coffee shop” feel that
makes it an ideal stop for V-Day. They’ll be
celebrating the holiday with The Pluto String
Quartet band, starting at 7pm, and have several
new beers out right now that are perfect
for the season. (My current obsession is the
Gard’n Gnome Bier de Garde, but try the Red
Dwarf Amber as well.)
Six packs are the new chocolate boxes, so
why not get your love a sixer of something
delicious AND chocolaty, like Odell’s Lugene,
Fort Collins’ Double Chocolate Stout, or even
New Belgium’s Frambozen Raspberry Ale. (Or,
to really impress your partner, include actual
chocolates to go along with the brews!)
If you’re getting a little beered-out (heaven
forbid), head over to Compass or Scrumpy’s
cideries. Just because it’s not fall doesn’t
mean it’s not still a good time for adult apple
juice. The Tempest Cherry Lychee is a good
call. Also check out Copper Muse or Elliot’s
for seriously sultry cocktails. Just don’t drink
alone, designate a driver, and have a blast!
