With the festival season upon us, more bikes will be on the road while folks enjoy Fort Collins’s myriad of local brews. In Colorado, bicycles are defined as vehicles, and the law that prohibits driving while under the influence also applies to bikes. While most DUI’s occur when drunk drivers operate motorized vehicles, and bicycle DUI’s are rare, bicyclists can be stopped for breaking the law. More information about Colorado cycling laws is available at: colobikelaw.com, bicyclecolo.org, and pedalclub.org. The City of Fort Collins is participating in Open Streets on June 7 from 10am to 3pm on W. Elizabeth St. The street will be temporarily closed to motorized traffic to provide a safe and comfortable space for people to walk, bicycle, jog, rollerblade and play! For more information check out their website at fcgov.com/openstreets. And don’t forget to mark your calendar for Ride Your Bike to Work Day taking place on Wednesday, June 24.
