What's up this weekend

There are plenty of fun things to do in northern Larimer County this last weekend in August. Here are just a few.

Colorado State University’s Shakespeare at Sunset continues its run of The Bard’s hilarious “The Comedy of Errors,” Aug. 23-26 (and Sept. 1-2) at 7 p.m. in the University Theatre at the University Center for the Arts, 1400 Remington St. Tickets $8 for CSU students, $10 general admission, free for youth under 8. Info: 970-491-2787, www.CSUArtsTickets.com, or www.UniversityCenterfortheArts.com.

Boating enthusiasts can still enjoy Horsetooth Reservoir all weekend, Aug. 24-26. Trailer-launched water craft must use the ramp at the South Bay swim beach. Info: www.larimer.org/naturalresources.

Wellington turns into one giant Back to School Garage Sale on Saturday, Aug. 25. From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be garage sales in every part of town, plus sales booths set up in Centennial Park at 3815 Harrison Ave., one block north of Cleveland Ave. Maps available bright and early at Centennial Park.

Meet your local birds of prey on Saturday at an open house at the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program facility at 720 E. Vine Drive, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about how the program cares for injured birds so they can return to the skies and other wildlife preservation projects. Info: 970-484-7756, judy@rmrp.org or www.RMRP.org.

Larimer County Farmer’s Union is holding its annual picnic — a German-themed potluck — at the Meisner Farm, north of Wellington, on Saturday at 5 p.m. There will also be a tour of LaLuna Dairy at 3 p.m. Info: 970-568-3105, gmeisner@skybeam.com.

And then say thank you to everyone involved in fighting the High Park Fire at a potluck Saturday afternoon 3-6 p.m. at Glacier View Meadows’ Meetin’ Place at 1414 Green Meadow Way. Bring an item to grill, a side dish and a heaping helping of gratitude for the Glacier View Fire Protection District. RSVP and info: Leigh, 970-224-2076.

Next weekend is Labor Day, with football and art auctions and the unofficial end of summer, so let’s get out there and have some fun.
