Don’t miss adorable costumed alpacas during the Alpaca Owners Association National Alpaca Show at the Denver National Western Complex in Denver. The show is sponsored by Red Granite Ranch, an alpaca breeder in Livermore.

The Alpaca Costume Contest will begin at noon on Saturday, March 18, and is open to the public free of charge.

Four age groups (under 9 years old, ages 9-11, 12 -14 and 15-19) will strut their stuff with their costumed alpacas in the main show ring. Costumes will be judged on the comfort of the animal with foreign objects on its head, legs and feet; how imaginative the costume is; and how well the costume reflects a story each participant must write. First through 6th-place ribbons will be awarded.

Other events include show ring competitions in which Suri and Huacaya alpacas from across the country are judged for conformation and fleece quality in a variety of categories.

The family-friendly Alpaca Show draws hundreds of alpaca enthusiasts and fiber artists every year. Hours are Friday, March 17, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, March 18, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday, March 19, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
