Video about Larimer County open spaces wins national award

Larimer County won a first-place award from the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors for “Our Open Space Story,” a video explaining the origins and funding of the county’s open space program.

NATOA presented the award to City of Fort Collins Cable 14 during its annual conference on Sept. 11 in San Diego. The video, educating citizens about the evolution and importance of open spaces in Larimer County, earned top honors in the “Promotion of a City/County” category.

The creative, cost-effective video uses hand-drawn artwork to convey the story of open space in Larimer County and how it is made possible by a citizen-initiated 1/4-cent sales and use tax. The video was released in advance of last November’s Help Preserve Open Spaces ballot measure to renew the tax. About 82 percent of those casting ballots voted to extend the tax for an additional 25 years.

“Our Open Space Story” was produced by Cable 14, the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources and ConverSketch, a local graphic recording and facilitation company.
