Something else to look forward to in 2012: The U.S. Department of Agriculture will be conducting the Census of Agriculture. The census is a complete count of U.S. farms and ranches and the people who operate them, taken every five years.
Any person with estimated or expected annual sales of agricultural products of at least $1,000 is considered a producer and should be counted.
This year’s census will be conducted during the fourth quarter and into 2013 to reflect 2012 farming activities. To be included, go to the Ag Department’s Census webpage at www.agcensus.usda.gov and click on Make Sure I’m Counted on the right-hand side of the page.
