The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will hold three hiring open houses specifically focused on military veterans as a part of an effort to hire up to 60 seasonal temporary snowplow drivers, heavy equipment mechanics, and dispatchers.
The open houses will be held at CDOT Headquarters, 4201 E. Arkansas Avenue in Denver, on the following dates and times:
Thursday, December 4 – 3-6 p.m.
Thursday, December 11 – 4-6 p.m.
Wednesday, December 17 – 8-10 a.m.
“Veterans often finish their military service with the types of skills we’re looking for,” noted CDOT deputy executive director Scot Cuthbertson. “We encourage veterans to make appointments and talk to us about our seasonal openings. We think we may have some good matches out there.”
Anyone thinking of attending should know that these positions require a good motor vehicle driving record as well as the following technical requirements:
• Snowplow Driver
Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
Minimum of six months heavy equipment operations experience
• Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
Minimum of four years of experience in automotive AND heavy equipment repair, including at least one year of experience with diagnosis and repair of heavy diesel equipment
For the snowplow driver and mechanic positions, if you have the required experience but do not have the required Commercial Drivers License, CDOT offers trainee opportunities.
• Communications Dispatcher
Regular Driver’s License
A least one year of full-time police communications experience in operating telephones, radio consoles, and computer terminals to receive, record, and transmit police communications. You must be able to communicate effectively with CDOT staff and others, sometimes in safety situations where quick communication is essential.
To participate in the hiring open houses, you must make an appointment to reserve your interview spot. Please call 303-757-9216 or e-mail [email protected] at least 24 hours prior to the event. Please bring your resume to the interview.
