Community Foundation of Northern Colorado celebrates 40th anniversary

The Community Foundation of Northern Colorado will reflect on 40 years of building a more engaged, philanthropic and visionary community at its annual Celebration of Philanthropy on May 14 at the Embassy Suites in Loveland.

This 2015 event marks the Community Foundation’s 40th anniversary. Founded in 1975 by Fort Collins Mayor Karl Carson and other community leaders, the foundation’s work was initially focused on the acceptance of charitable gifts designated for the creation of the Fort Collins Lincoln Center. The efforts of the foundation’s founding trustees resulted in a regional community foundation that has served as the platform for the launch of numerous community initiatives and special projects. In its 40 years of service to the Northern Colorado region, the foundation has distributed more than $65 million in grants and programs to non-profit and charitable entities with the help and generosity of donors and volunteers. The volume of grants has increased dramatically over the years, with $38 million distributed in just the past 10 years. Today, the Community Foundation manages approximately 400 individual charitable funds and more than $90 million in assets.

The 2015 Annual Celebration of Philanthropy will include reflection on the impact of philanthropy in our region, recognition of outstanding community leaders, and a keynote address by Tim Schultz, Boettcher Foundation president. Schultz is a Colorado native who attended Colorado State University and served as a county commissioner for Rio Blanco County. He subsequently held two cabinet positions for the State of Colorado. Schultz will speak to the important role philanthropy plays in influencing and shaping the future of our region. His message will plant seeds for charitable giving and inspire attendees concerning the important role of non-profit work in our community.
