Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services crews were called to assist the Wellington Fire Department today on a grass fire in the area of Vesta Lane and County Road 9. The fire was reported at approximately noon today. Poudre Fire Authority was also called to assist.
The grass fire burned approximately 650 acres and is currently about 90 percent contained. The cause is still under investigation but appears to be human caused.
Approximately 63 emergency notifications, advising area residents within a two mile radius of the fire to be ready to evacuate themselves and animals if needed, were sent out; however, no evacuations were needed. County Road 9 and Vesta Lane were closed for a period of time but have since been reopened.
One shed was damaged but no other structures were threatened. The fire is located on private property and was fanned by strong wind gusts in the area. No injuries have been reported.
Fire crews are currently finishing with containment and have begun mop-up operations.
