The Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland, in cooperation with the Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Colorado Water Conservation Board, and Wildland Restoration Volunteers, is beginning restoration work along the Lower Skin Gulch Stream that was impacted by the High Park Fire in 2012 and September 2013 Flood.
The Skin Gulch Stream corridor was altered by an increase in sediment from these two events. This restoration work will benefit the Lower Skin Gulch along Stove Prairie Road, improving stream function and reducing sedimentation. This project will also help improve water quality downstream of the main stem of the Cache la Poudre River.
On May 2, Wildland Restoration Volunteers are hosting a volunteer day for the Skin Gulch project. They will be planting and seeding at the junction of Stove Prairie Road and Highway 14. They can have up to 70 volunteers, but you must be 16 years or older. Those interested can get additional information and sign-up at www.wlrv.net.
