The Bellvue pipeline is just one of the issues facing water users in Northern Colorado.
The Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District is considering a new rule limiting use of water from the Colorado-Big Thompson project to within the boundaries of the district. That could curtail rapidly increasing sales of C-BT and Windy Gap Firming Project water to oil-and-gas operators for use in hydraulic fracturing operations. It can take up to 5 million gallons of water to frack just one horizontal well, according to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.
Northern Water’s board will discuss the proposed rule at its Jan. 13 meeting at 10 a.m. in Berthoud. Exact language of the rule can be found on the district’s website at www.northernwater.org, and written comments may be submitted through Jan. 3.
