Photos from Hewlett Gulch fire in Poudre Canyon

The Hewlett Fire started Monday afternoon on the Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Roosevelt National Forest. The fire is located approximately 20 miles northwest of Fort Collins, 10 miles west of the junction of Hwy 14 and Hwy 287 near the Hewlett Gulch Trail in the Poudre Canyon.

The fire is estimated at 270 to 280 acres as of 8:30 a.m. on May 15. Firefighters staffed the fire and there was some fire activity throughout the night. The fire is located less than one mile from Poudre Park. Structures are located near the fire, but none are immediately threatened. Smoke remains visible from Fort Collins.

The Hewlett Gulch Trail, Greyrock Trail, and the area surrounding the trails are closed.

  1. How sad to see the destruction in this magnificent area where I used to live. Thank God for the firefighters, but even more I thank God and look forward to His “new heavens and the new earth, where there shall be no more tears, or suffering or death” … and no more disasters such as fires out of control.
