Unemployment down in Larimer County from 2011

Employment figures for January released Tuesday by the Colorado Division of Labor and Employment show a significant decrease in unemployment in Larimer County compared to last January.

In the first month of 2011, just over 14,000 county residents were without work — 8 percent of the workforce. In January 2012, 12,058 people living in Larimer County were out of a job – 6.9 percent. In December 2011, the county unemployment rate was 6.1 percent, representing 10,888 individuals.

According to the Larimer County Workforce Center, between 2002 and 2011 the average unemployment rate for the county was 5.2 percent.

At the state level, unemployment stood at 8.4 percent in January, up from December’s 7.7 percent, but down more than a full percentage point from January 2011. That translates into nearly 25,000 more Coloradans with jobs at the start of this year than at the start of last year.

The DLE figures, which have not been seasonally adjusted, showed the largest private sector job gains statewide in construction, professional and business services, and leisure and hospitality between December and January. The state reported no significant month-to-month declines in the private sector.

National unemployment also declined year over year, from 9.1 percent in January 2011 to 8.3 in January 2012.

  1. Folks, take a look around you. Take a look at your own situation, your neighbors’ situations, your friends’ situations and your family’s situation. Are things really better for your or they lately? Or have you or they simply given up? Are you or they fully employed at jobs commiserate with your or their capabilities? Or have you or they settled for part time work and/or low-paying jobs far below your or their skill levels? Who are you gonna believe? What you see with your every own eyes or lying propaganda statistics from the Obammunist administration which are uncritically regurgitated by the lap-dog bird-cage-liner press and the alphabet networks?
