U.S. Forest Service firefighters plan to burn slash hand piles west of the Crystal Lakes subdivision. Another firefighting crew is planning to burn slash machine piles in West Beaver, approximately five miles northwest of Crystal Lake. Burning is planned for Jan. 16, but could continue through the week if conditions allow.
Conditions are evaluated each day of the burn to determine if ignition will take place. Wind, fuel moisture, staffing and snow cover all play a factor in where and whether ignition occurs.
Hand piles will be monitored throughout the week as necessary and snow cover will be checked for weeks following burning of the machine piles.
