At a community meeting planned for Monday, May 4, the people of Wellington will have an opportunity to hear from a panel of Poudre School District employees and staff concerning future facilities plans. Superintendent Sandra Smyser, assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools Edie Eckels and several other staff and facilities planners will be present to present an overview of the long-range plan. They will address changes necessitated by the rapid growth of Wellington, both short and long term, and will welcome feedback and input from the community.
Danielle Clark, communications director for PSD, emphasized that any proposed plans will be implemented starting in 2020 and that students now in middle school and high school will not be impacted. “We’re saying that students now in third grade or younger will experience the changes,” Clark said.
The panel will discuss plans for a new school in Wellington, initially to house grades six through 12, and will also review options that were considered and dropped. The school district representatives want to know what the public thinks and be made aware of any issues they may have failed to consider.
Clark suggests that the best preparation for the meeting is to read the long-range plan available on PSD’s website. See “focus project” on their home page and click the long-range facilities plan link on the right side of the screen.
The meeting will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Wellington Middle School on Monday, May 4.
