Bench to honor Torry Archibald to be dedicated

The members of Torry Archibald’s Girl Scout Troop 814 and their families are honoring her life and making sure she will not be forgotten by erecting a bench in her honor in Centennial Park in Wellington, her hometown.

Dedication of the bench is open to the public and set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday May 1 at Centennial Park near Third Street between Cleveland and Harrison. The Filling Station will be open at 5:30 p.m. to serve refreshments and welcome everyone and will open again following the candlelight ceremony.

After Torry’s untimely death in February, her former Girl Scout leader, Amy Bibbey, reconvened the troop via email and coordinated plans for the bench. Torry was a member of the troop between first and sixth grades. “A welcome addition because of her infectious energy, spunk and enthusiasm,” Bibbey said. “She was incredibly funny, very competitive and always among the top sellers of Girl Scout cookies. She embraced everyone and remained friends with everyone.”

In addition to the funds raised by Troop 814, the Town of Wellington contributed to the bench in Torry’s honor. “It will be a place for any of you to go and reflect on her life and life in general,” Bibbey said.

She encourages anyone who knew Torry or who was touched by her to attend.
