First, an update on the first annual Red Feather Read — now scheduled for November — exact date not yet finalized — which we see as an opportunity for the community to support local literacy, the value of reading, and terrific local writing talent. The first selection will be local author T. J. Viola’s “Gumshoe Chronicles” series, 1920 and 1921.
The books are available for purchase through several local and national outlets, available electronically in a Kindle edition and also can be checked out at the Red Feather Lakes Community Library with your library card.

You do hold a library card, don’t you? If by chance this has been an oversight and you’ve missed September’s National Library Card Signup Month, we’re pleased to assist. Library cards here are free with a simple application process – taking about five minutes in all – allowing personal access to over 12,000 items within the library as well as hundreds of thousands of additional items that can be borrowed from other Colorado libraries.
Speaking of library appreciation times and timing, we’re pleased to report that National Friends of Libraries Week is Oct. 17-21. We’d highly recommend that if you did not renew your membership in June, now is the time to do so.
President Susie Trabant reports that “The Friends of the Red Feather Lakes Community Library invite and encourage you to join our local Friends group. We advocate for our library and raise much-needed funds. We sponsor programs and special events, and host our popular used book sales. October programming:
Saturday, Oct. 6, 1 p.m.: Jane and Dan Hess present All about Moose.
Friday, Oct. 12, 1-3 p.m., are two programs sponsored by the Aspen Club of Fort Collins. Advanced Directives — how to outline end-of-life interests — and a basic Medicare Program beginning at 2 p.m.
The end of October at the library is Halloween time. Tots and Babes (6 mo. through 1 1/2 years), Preschool Play & Reading (ages 2-5) and Fun Day (ages 6-12) will all be Halloween-themed for the session just prior to Halloween. For individuals a bit older Young Adult Night, Oct. 20, will be Halloween based.
And, our first Halloween Bash, Oct. 31, for preschoolers through grade 6 will be held 4-6pm with Trunk-or-Treat in the library parking lot (for all ages) at 6 p.m. Crafts, food, fun and trick-or-treat.
