Wellington Farmers Market opens June 4

The Wellington Farmers Market’s second season comes to life on Thursday, June 4, at Centennial Park in downtown Wellington. The market will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. or dusk on Thursday nights through Oct. 22.

“We’ll have fruits, vegetables, honey, meats including sausage, baked goods, popcorn and snacks for sale,” market coordinator Juliann Harvey said.

In addition to food items, the market will have jewelry, craft items and body and wellness supplies.

This season, the Farmers Market will accept SNAP payments, and it will be possible to pay with a credit card, making purchases more convenient and accessible for many.

And there may be some surprises. Harvey taught a Wellington Middle School Eagles After-Hours class this spring focusing on how to start a business. Some students may join the Farmers Market to practice what they earned and peddle their wares. Watch for booths selling cupcakes and comic books, and maybe some other things as well.

The Farmers’ Market is partnering with the Wellington Main Street Program to bring a live concert to the market the first Thursday of each month. Third Thursdays are designated as family nights when there will be a scavenger hunt, crafts for kids and special guests. Each family night will have a theme ranging from summer fun to animals and a final evening featuring spooky Halloween events in October.

Harvey has been busy in the off-season meeting with regional farmers’ market groups and the Northern Colorado Food Cluster to facilitate marketing efforts. She is also in the process of contacting Poudre High School’s Ag Department and Future Farmers of America organization to discuss internships and grants.

Grab a friend or neighbor and your reusable shopping bag and stroll on down to Centennial Park on Thursday nights!
