On October 1, Wellington Fire Protection District will be conducting a live fire training at Station 3 located at 3019 E. CR 82 near Wellington. Training will start at 7 a.m., and will continue throughout the day. There will be a number of emergency response vehicles in the area, as well as the potential of large amounts of smoke being visible from CR 82 and I-25.
We know in Colorado wildfires can occur no matter the season. Live fire trainings conducted by the fire department’s personnel is essential in maintaining knowledge and skills in fire behavior, suppression and communication when on a wildland fire scene. This training has been developed using nationally recognized standards to ensure a safe and effective training.
Wellington FPD would also like to remind everyone there are things you can do to help prevent wildfires. By preforming mitigation around your property, you can help prevent the start and spread of a grass fire. Know and understand your burn permit rules before burning, and remember do not burn when there is a high wind or red flag warning are in place.
