Can we really be in August already?
Summer, I will miss your lazy days and long nights. I’m sorry I have not taken advantage of your warm weather. So I invite you to get out there and enjoy August. After all, we owe it to summer.
But for those days that are just too hot to enjoy we invite you to come into the library and see what’s new. We have great new area for curling up and reading for our teens, and in the children’s area we have fun new furniture and decorations.
Our Summer Reading Program “Fizz, Boom, Read” has almost fizzed, boomed and well, the reading will always go on. Although the program is not over until Aug. 15 we have already had record numbers in the program and attending the events, so thank you for making our programs such a success. Thank you Lydia Allen for your program on ballet and other dances. Thank you Ann Lincoln for the extremely entertaining magic show. Thank you Bill West for showing us how fun birding can be in Colorado. We owe The Bubble Lady a thank you for sharing the fun of bubbles with us, and thank you Gary Raham for letting us walk ancient seashores with you. We are a library that is very lucky to be in such a giving town with so many creative people willing to share their talents.
Students entering Wellington Middle School, please get your Early Locker Choice book reports in by Aug. 11 in order to get your Early Locker Choice Pass. School will be back in session soon. We hope we have helped everyone keep their reading levels up and that reading was part of your summer activities. To show your team spirit and as a way to kick off the school year we invite you to wear your team’s T-shirt or sweat shirt to the library during the month of August. This includes all teams; professional, collegiate, high school, middle school, grade school, academic and athletic. Our Storytimes for August are on the 12th (beck to school) and the 26th (Sports) at 11 a.m. Come by with your preschooler for a great time reading, pasting and coloring — sometimes even glittering! The Wellington Public Library Bookclub will meet on Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. to discuss “The Secret Keeper” by Kate Morton. Come by the library and pick up your copy.
