As the foremost authority on procrastination, I’m here to tell you it’s not too late to get started on those resolutions. I’ve started on mine at least 10 times.
I had to start over again this morning after having cookies for breakfast. So whether it’s Monday or Thursday just declare it a new beginning, dust off those cookie crumbs and get on with it.
Ironically, to stop procrastinating is one of my resolutions. So while procrastinating the other day, I watched the movie “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” and then told my son how good it was. He informed me he had read the whole series of books and really liked them. Now I didn’t remember seeing him read these books, so I quizzed him and sure enough he had. “Well, you had them lying around the house so I figured I’d go ahead and read them,” he replied. This was a very proud moment for me as a mother. I have always had books lying around the house — and in vehicles — in the hope that curiosity would get the best of my children, or even me, to pick up the book and read.
Something I had done had actually been noticed by my child. Granted cooking and cleaning seem to still go unnoticed, but it was a proud moment. This may not seem newsworthy, but my point is this: what we do as parents does not go unnoticed. As a person, you never know what actions of yours will make an impression on others.
Of course the library will have a special display for Valentine’s Day so please come in and contribute. We want to know what you have read lately and loved. In honor of President’s Day please come in and take our “Know your President’s” quiz. True or false: President Jimmy Carter was the first American President to be born in a hospital. Come in the library with the correct answer to this statement and receive extra credit. There is a prize involved for those who know their Presidents.
Storytimes are set for Feb. 11 and 25 at 11 a.m. Bring your preschooler and enjoy book readings and a craft.
The WPL bookclub will meet Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. to discuss “The Hobbit” by J.R. Tolkien. Copies for book-club members are available at the library.
The library will be closed Feb. 17 in observance of President’s Day.
