Summer entertainment is heating up at Hodi’s. July will see great talent from local favorites as well as first-time performances from emerging musicians. The month will kick off with “America Loves the ‘80s,” a pre Fourth of July dance party celebrating the well-loved decade of music. Wingman Entertainment will feature a live DJ spinning your favorite ‘80s beats, and a costume contest will be held for the most intense ‘80s enthusiasts. Tickets are just $3 for 21 and up, and $5 for under 21. The party starts at 8pm on Thursday, July 3. Celebrate America’s pop culture heritage and kick off the Independence Day weekend most “bodacious-ly!”
The first of the “Scene Presents” concerts for July is the up-and-coming group Shatterproof. A violin-based alternative rock/punk group, Shatterproof is native to Fort Collins and gains special recognition for the accomplishments of its very young members. Just out of high school, the band released their first EP in 2012, and was accepted into the SpokesBUZZ class of 2014 as the youngest members to ever join. This summer will be their first tour. Catch them at Hodi’s on Saturday, July 12 at 8pm. Tickets are $5 for 21+, $10 for under 21.
Also among July’s “Scene Presents” concerts is the highly anticipated performance of Shaley Scott and her five-piece band, a unique ensemble of pop and soul. A Fort Collins native, Scott developed a passion for music at age five. She studied at the Colorado Academy for the Arts, played on a local TV station at only 14, and has toured extensively around the U.S. and Europe, all before graduating high school. Scott was offered a musical scholarship to CSU, but decided to take a different direction in her musical career and moved to Los Angeles.
While working on the West Coast, she contributed to many movie soundtracks, including the 2007 film Hitchhiker, in which she also played a leading role. Scott has appeared in five different films, produced her own CDs, and worked collaboratively with many other artists. She has now returned to Colorado and will be performing on Friday, August 1. The show starts at 8pm. Tickets are $5 for 21+, $10 for under 21.
Make sure to check out the Scene events calendar for more Hodi’s happenings this month.
