Investigation underway after suspect critically injured during arrest attempt at St. Vrain State Park
A man is in serious condition following a law enforcement encounter at St. Vrain State Park in Firestone on March 29, prompting an investigation by the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team.
According to authorities, a Colorado Parks and Wildlife ranger initiated a traffic stop around 12:25 p.m. on suspicion of driving under the influence. During the stop, the individual resisted arrest, leading to a physical struggle that resulted in minor injuries to the ranger.
A responding officer from the Dacono Police Department attempted to gain compliance, but the suspect continued to resist commands. The officer deployed a Taser, which caused the individual to fall backward and strike his head. Emergency medical care was provided at the scene before the suspect was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
The 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team, which investigates officer-involved incidents across Weld County, is now leading the case. Officials say the investigation remains active, and additional details will be released as they become available.
