Power cut to nearby homes as crews investigate vehicle fire near 5th Street
GREELEY, Colo. — A fast-moving early morning fire in Greeley prompted multiple emergency calls and a significant response from local firefighters, who were able to contain the blaze before it spread to nearby homes.
At approximately 4:00 a.m., Weld County Dispatch received reports of a heavy fire near the intersection of 5th Street and 14th Avenue. When Engine 101 arrived on scene, firefighters initially observed what appeared to be a residential structure fire with nearby buildings at risk.
Crews quickly determined the fire was confined to multiple vehicles burning in a backyard rather than the home itself. Firefighters deployed several handlines to attack the flames, while Truck 101 established an aerial master stream to help suppress the fire and protect surrounding structures.
Thanks to the coordinated response, crews contained the fire to the backyard, preventing damage to nearby homes and businesses.
No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.
Firefighters remained on scene later in the morning to investigate the cause of the fire and extinguish lingering hot spots. As a precaution, power was shut off to homes on the west side of 14th Avenue until utility crews with Xcel Energy could ensure the power lines were safe.
Multiple agencies assisted in the response, including several Greeley fire units and officers from the Greeley Police Department.
The incident highlights the importance of rapid response in densely populated Northern Colorado neighborhoods, where vehicle or outdoor fires can quickly threaten surrounding structures.
