Quick response limits damage, prevents spread to living space
Firefighters in Fort Collins contained a garage fire Sunday evening, preventing flames from spreading into a nearby duplex and protecting surrounding homes.
According to the Poudre Fire Authority, crews responded around 5:58 p.m. on March 29 to the 1700 block of Pecan Street after multiple 911 calls reported heavy flames and concerns that someone may have entered the home to rescue a dog.
Fire crews arrived within minutes and quickly began an aggressive attack on the fire. Engine 2 and Engine 4 crews knocked down the main blaze and kept it confined to the garage. While the residential portion of the duplex was spared fire damage, smoke affected parts of the home.
Firefighters also conducted searches of the structure to ensure there were no occupants inside who needed assistance. No injuries were reported.
The response lasted just over three hours, with the final units clearing the scene around 9 p.m. A drone was also deployed during the incident, capturing both aerial and ground views of the response and smoke rising along the foothills.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
