Larimer County Sheriff’s Office marijuana-related DUI arrests increase versus 2014

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office made 665 arrests for driving under the influence (DUI – alcohol) and driving under the influence of drugs (DUID) in 2014. That number fell slightly to 625 in 2015. Despite the 6 percent decrease in total arrests, the number of marijuana related DUID arrests rose 48 percent from 2014 to 2015.

LCSO made 130 arrests in 2014 for DUID of which 70 percent involved marijuana. In 2015, DUID arrests increased to 177 and 76 percent of those involved marijuana.

DUID investigations/arrests are more time consuming than DUI cases which means deputies are patrolling less while completing these investigations. This may account for the overall drop in DUI/DUID arrests.
