Letter: Support PVREA's Clean Power Act

Editor:

I was reading the North Forty News article in the May issue on the Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association meeting highlights. My wife and I have property in Red Feather Highlands and voted by mail in the Board of Directors election.

I want to comment on the statement made by Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association Inc. Representative Barbara Walz that her company, which provides us electric power, opposes PVREA’s Clean Power Act. We find ourselves shocked that the company implies that acting responsibly for the planet and our future would be an irresponsible way for it to function as a supplier.

The time has come for us, as responsible users, to start developing new plans in how we are supplied with electricity. We think there should be a task force set up to explore options and we would like to see a plan included for developing PVREA’s supply source and using renewable and sustainable energy for our needs.

The old, now defunct, power companies are not going to change. So we must start anew, taking matters into our own hands. We must listen to the 97 percent of climate scientists who understand that climate change is real, human caused, and will lead to our demise as a species if we don’t take action and stop the use of fossil fuels.
