Nick Christensen from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office and Kevin Atchley and Ron Archuleta from the U.S. Forest Service will join County Commissioners Lew Gaiter III and Steve Johnson at their regular citizens’ meeting to provide an update on the Hewlett Fire.
The meeting takes place at 7:30 a.m., May 17, at Dazbog Coffee, 401 Mason Court, Fort Collins, and is open to all Larimer County residents.
The Hewlett Fire has been burning since Monday afternoon in Poudre Canyon, about 10 miles west of the junction of Colorado Highway 14 and U.S. Highway 287, a mile from Poudre Park. As of noon Wednesday, the U.S. Forest Service’s InciWeb site was reporting that the fire had grown to 982 acres and was 5 percent contained. Gusty winds are expected in the area later today.
No evacuation orders have been issued, although residents from mile marker 110 to 115 a quarter-mile mile north and south of Highway 14 have been notified to prepare to evacuate if needed. Glacier View and Livermore Fire Protection Districts are coordinating efforts with Hewlett Fire Operations and the sheriff’s department in the event the fire moves in that direction.
The Hewlett Gulch Trail, Greyrock Trail and the area surrounding the trails are closed.
