Hochheimer announces bid for state senate seat

Hans Hochheimer announced April 2 that he is running as the Republican candidate for the Colorado Senate seat in District 14, currently held by John Kefalas, a Democrat.

Hochheimer believes that the voters in Fort Collins want a candidate who represents the values of this community — integrity, responsibility and freedom. He will focus on healthcare, education and veterans issues.

Hochheimer has lived in Fort Collins for 28 years with his wife, Renate, who is a retired Colorado high school and college teacher. Together they raised three sons in Fort Collins.

Hochheimer studied physics and mathematics at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University and received his doctoral degree from the University of Regensburg. Hochheimer began his career at Colorado State University in 1988 and was appointed and served as Chair of the Physics Department from 2005 to 2010. He is currently listed as a Professor and Chair Emeritus for Colorado State University.

Hochheimer has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Little Shop of Physics. He is a lifelong learner and relishes in sharing this with others. In 2002, he was the first American scientist in 20 years who was allowed to perform research at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center in Mumbai, India. His awards and honors include a German Science Foundation fellowship at Arizona State University, and he was presented a Key to the City of Fort Collins by the former Mayor, Doug Hutchinson. He was awarded the Medal of Honor of the Rhein Main University of Applied Sciences in Ruesselsheim, Germany, and was presented a Paul Harris Fellowship from the Rotary Foundation. He has been published in numerous journals and has been a presenter at several international conferences.
