Have you met your new neighbors yet? Chances are you have new neighbors. I do.
Wellington is growing and the library is also. Not physically but we are certainly increasing our book, audio book and movie selections. The number of patrons has also grown. During the summer months our number of new patrons per month doubled. Your new neighbors probably moved here for the same reasons you did; to live in a small community with great schools and friendly people. It seems Wellington is becoming the community we have always wanted it to become.

We are having our annual “Great Pumpkin Contest” during the month of October. Bring in your carved, painted or blinged out pumpkin, zucchini or any type of squash. Everyone is invited to enter. For the kids we will also be having a coloring contest. We will display these carved and colored masterpieces and have the public judge them for the most clever, the prettiest, the silliest and the scariest. Prizes will be given out for the winner of each category. The coloring pages will be available starting October 1st at the library. If you would like to keep your pumpkin/squash/zucchini creation at home, feel free to just bring us in a picture.
Our other October contest will be “Fall Foliage.” Bring us in the most beautiful leaf you can find for our autumn book display. Remember — not a bushel’s worth, just a very special and select few. We don’t want the whole pile from your yard!
Please remember to come see us on Halloween, Friday, Oct. 31. No tricks, just treats will be given out to anyone in costume.
The Wellington Public Library Book club will be meeting in October to discuss this month’s book selection. If you would like to join, please drop in and pick up a copy of this month’s selection.
Our preschool Storytimes for the month of October are Fall Leaves on 10/14 and Pumpkins on 10/28 at 11 a.m. These are always so much fun.
I would also like to thank our staff — Kim, Melissa and Mary Beth — and our volunteers — Kate, Norma, Bob, Tairyn, Bill, Jacob, Alice, Doug and Deana — here at the library for working so hard and putting in so many hours this summer. Your hard work was greatly appreciated by me and our patrons. Our library reflects our community in how well we take care of each other and are always there to lend a helping hand.
