Why I am voting “yes” on Parks for Wellington:
Something for everyone — a splash pad and huge playground, a dog park, BMX track, new multi-use ball fields, beautiful naturalized areas, enhanced sledding hill and pond. All right here in Wellington!
The park is already paid for! As I understand it, we are not incurring new debt. This vote will make the town use the funds in the park fund for a park. The construction loan just gets it started. Remember, this does not raise taxes and it does not take money away other town projects! The money is there, let’s use it for something that benefits everyone!
A win for local businesses! A good park, and this is planned to be a great one, will help keep people in town instead of traveling to other communities and spending money elsewhere.
It is more than just a park! Wellington Community Park is the first step in a great trail system! The trails will run from Smith Lake/Reservoir 4 to the new park and connect to all the parks in town along Boxelder Creek. (Check out the Town of Wellington Parks and Trails Master Plans Page 49 for the map.) And, eventually…
The trail system is planned to connect to bike trails in Fort Collins! Know all that bike traffic you see alongside county roads? Think of that being moved to trails and then think how many more people might take a ride up to Wellington on a nice day and enjoy some ice cream or maybe lunch while they are up here? What a great boon for Main Street!
Let’s make this park happen! It is the start of something really great for our whole town and your vote will make the difference!
