What better way to start the holiday season than by doing something for somebody else? Bring your family and “pay it forward” at the Wheelie Good Holiday Fundraiser, 2-4 p.m. Saturday Dec. 5 at Harmony Pavilion, 4175B Club Drive in Timnath, near the pool and parking lot. Residents of the Harmony Club subdivision have come together to organize a bicycle giveaway. They plan to collect 100 new or gently used bikes for kids 4-18 years old to donate to Realities for Children, a local non-profit charity serving neglected, abused and at-risk children. Drop off a bike or make a donation and celebrate the joy of giving with live music, s’mores, drinks and activities for everyone in the family. Each bike will be matched with a free helmet. WinterSong: Santa Baby!, Opera Fort Collins 16th annual wintersong gala includes a gourmet dinner, buy-it-now auction and live holiday concert. Come support the opera and enjoy your favorite Christmas music. The show goes on at 6 p.m. Friday Dec. 4 at Lory Student Center Theater. Tickets are $75; $50 for students and are available at the Lincoln Center Box Office or through lctix.com. No tickets sold at the door.
Take a couple of hours to relax and chuckle at Bas Bleu’s production of A Tuna Christmas which runs through Dec. 27 at 401 Pine St. in Fort Collins. Two actors each play 10 different male and female characters ranging from radio announcers to pre-teens to elderly aunties and a middle-aged woman who owns the local weapons store in Tuna, Texas. The School of Music, Theatre and Dance at Colorado State University presents its annual Holiday Spectacular with concerts celebrating “Goodwill to All” on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Griffin Concert Hall, University Center of the Arts, 1400 Remington St. in Fort Collins. Proceeds will be directed toward music scholarships at CSU. no charge for CSU students; $10 for youth under 18; $20 for the public. Tickets at the University Center for the Arts ticket office in the UCA lobby Monday through Friday, 3:30-5:30 p.m. and 60 minutes prior to performances, by phone at 970-491-ARTS (2787), or online at CSUArtsTickets.com. Youth tickets must be purchased in person at the ticket office. All tickets are subject to a $1 ticket fee for both online and at-the-door purchases. Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended to avoid lines.
There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy different versions of the Nutcracker this season. Take your pick or see them all! On Dec. 18 and 19 Contemporary Dance Academy presents Clara and the Nutcracker. Mountain Dance Kids offers Nutcracker with a Twist, Dec. 4, 5 and 6. And Canyon Concert Ballet puts on the traditional Nutcracker Dec. 11, 12 and 13. All shows at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins. For Nutcracker fans who can’t get enough, there’s a Nutcracker Tea presented by Canyon Concert Ballet on Dec. 12 at 4:30 p.m. before or after the production. This event includes high tea, visits from the play’s characters and special souvenirs for kids to take home. $22, Lincoln Center Canyon West room. There’s still time to catch OpenStage Theatre’s production of Superior Donuts which closes Nov. 28. “A sticky sweet comedy about a has-been hippie and a fast-talking ambitious new employee at the donut shop.” Lincoln Center Magnolia Theatre, 8 p.m. Nov. 27-28.
The Fort Collins Museum of Art and well-known local artist and graphic designer, Bob Coonts, have invited 20 designers to display a memorable piece of work from their careers to create Bob Coonts Art & Influence at MOA, an exhibition through Jan. 10.
