Wellington celebrating Pi Day on 3/14/15

In mathematics, the Greek letter Pi (∏) is used as the symbol for the ratio of the perimeter of a circle to the diameter. It is one of the most important numbers in science and math.
In 2009, the U.S. Congress passed a resolution designating March 14 (3/14) as national Pi day in support and encouragement of math and science education programs. Because this is 2015, the date and time when written out as 3/14/15:9:26:53… recreates the full decimal value of Pi of 3.141592653… , making this the Ultimate Pi Day of the century.

In recognition of this occasion, Wellington will celebrate Ultimate Pi Day this year with a festival of Pi and pie on Saturday, March 14. There will be pie sales, pie tasting, pie judging, informative educational displays and pie games conducted all along Cleveland Avenue (main street).
Everyone is invited to participate in the festivities, starting at 8:30 a.m. with a special surprise that will take place at the (almost) exact time of pi at 9:26:53 a.m.

The pie judging contest will be conducted by the Wellington Senior Center. First, second and third place prizes in the form of Wellington Bucks will be awarded. Entries will be accepted the day of the festival.

The festival is a cosponsored by the Town of Wellington Community Activity Commission, the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce, the Wellington Colorado Main Street Program and the Wellington Farmers Market.
