Wellington Recreation update for Jan. 2014

We hope everyone was able to enjoy time with their friends and families during the holiday season during the last couple of months.

Wellington Recreation will offer many of the same activities in 2014 that were available last year. We will start off the year with adult and youth volleyball (call the office at 970-568-7410 to see if space is available). In the spring, kids can participate in soccer or flag football. Adults can play co-ed soccer during the spring season. For the summer youth season we will offer T-ball, baseball, girls softball and soccer. Adults can participate in our co-ed softball league and coed soccer.

For 2014, we will open up a men’s summer softball league on Sunday evenings. When the leaves begin to turn kids can again play soccer and flag football. Fall options for adults include flag football and coed soccer. We will end up the year with basketball for the kids and volleyball for the adults. Weather permitting, our batting cages are scheduled to open May 5.

Visit our website at townofwellington.com/recreation or call the Recreation Office at 970-568-7410 for more information on programs.

Our youth sports are powered by volunteer coaches. Even with a good corps of coaches that return each year (THANK YOU!) the kids are always in need of more coaches. All coaches are required to be National Association for Youth Sports certified, take a yearly concussion awareness course, and pass a background check. Coaching a youth team may seem scary to some, but it can be one of the most rewarding experiences.

Outside of sports we will be holding our 9Health Fair on April 5 at Wellington Community Church. Contact us early if you are interested in helping out or donating. We look forward to a great 2014!
