Transition shifts ownership while aiming to preserve care for Northern Colorado seniors
A major transition in Northern Colorado’s senior care landscape is underway as Columbine Health Systems has completed the sale of eight independent and assisted living communities to National Health Investors, Inc., with the change taking effect May 1.
The deal includes several well-known communities across the region, including The Worthington and The Winslow in Fort Collins, The Wexford in Loveland, and The Windsor in Windsor. Also included are Columbine Patio Homes in Fort Collins, Westwood Patio Homes in Windsor, New Mercer Commons Assisted Living in Fort Collins, and Lakeview Commons Assisted Living in Loveland.
The properties will now be owned by National Health Investors, Inc., a healthcare real estate investment trust specializing in senior housing and medical facilities. Management of the communities will be handled by Generations LLC, which Columbine leaders say shares a similar philosophy of resident-centered care.
For Northern Colorado families, the transition is expected to be largely seamless, with leadership emphasizing continuity of care, staffing, and daily operations. Generations LLC has assumed operational control and is working to maintain the same level of service that residents and their families have come to expect.
Columbine Health Systems has been a fixture in the region since 1971, growing under its owner, Bob Wilson, into one of the area’s most recognized senior care providers. Wilson described the transition as a milestone moment, expressing confidence that the new management team will carry forward the organization’s long-standing commitment to compassionate care.
This sale follows a series of recent transitions. In December 2025, Columbine sold several additional properties to Cottonwood Healthcare, including facilities in Windsor and Fort Collins. Earlier this year, the organization also divested several related businesses, including pharmacy, infusion therapy, and home care services, to other providers.
Together, these changes reflect a broader shift in how senior care services are being structured and managed across Northern Colorado. For residents and their families, the focus remains on stability—ensuring that care, community, and support continue without disruption during the ownership transition.
