New coordinator for 9Health Fair

Amber Wich has been orchestrating the 9Health Fair in Wellington since 2009, and she’s loved every minute of her job. With more than 100 volunteers and what she describes as “an amazing leadership team,” she feels good about the service she has provided to the community.

“It’s important,” she said. “With all the changes in health-care that are going on, it is so helpful for people to get free and low-cost screening and have reports sent directly to them.”

With a degree in recreation and an emphasis on planning, Wich was the perfect fit for the job. She came to Wellington with a couple years’ experience running the 9Health Fair in the Johnstown-Milliken area and with an eagerness to serve the Wellington community. She worked through the Wellington Recreation Department, sponsors of the Fair.

9Health Fair is a non-profit organization that sponsors 175 annual health fairs throughout the state. The organization supplies the majority of supplies for the local fairs.

This year, Wich, who has made the decision to home-school her children and also works for Coal Creek Landscaping, is ready for a break.

I’m calling it a sabbatical,” she said, indicating she’s still committed to the health fair and would considering resuming her job in a year.

Despite tremendous help from volunteers, when no one has been willing to step up and take hold of the reins, Wich decided to put out an email asking for someone to take over her job.

An early response came from Fire Chief Gary Green who volunteered the services of the Wellington Fire Department to coordinate the fair. Green is waiting to hear from the Wellington Recreation Department who will have the final say on a new coordinator.
