NoCo Rebuilding Network grants $10,000 for Crystal Fire reconstruction

NoCo Rebuilding Network, an organization formed to assist in sustainable rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of local disasters, has donated $10,000 to Larimer County residents who are reconstructing homes lost earlier this year during the Crystal Fire.

The funds were raised through various avenues over the summer. Those receiving funds are rebuilding homes within the county using technology that reduces energy demand. NoCo Rebuilding Network raises funds, resources and volunteers to help people and communities incorporate sustainable design and construction techniques.

The network includes corporate partners New Belgium Brewery, Otter Box, The Neenan Co., RB&B Architects, Motherlove, Matter Bookstore, Institute for the Built Environment at Colorado State University, Sustainable Living Association, SpokesBuzz and Habitat for Humanity.

The Crystal Fire burned 13 homes and nearly 3,000 acres northwest of Masonville in early April. Thomas Howie, who allegedly started the blaze while burning slash on private property, pled not guilty to a charge of fourth-degree arson in August. He is scheduled to stand trial in Larimer County District Court beginning on Nov. 29. If convicted, Howie could face a maximum penalty of six years in prison and a fine of $500,000.
