Highway 14 reopened, evacuations lifted

Firefighters made good progress against the Hewlett Fire on Friday, reporting it 45 percent contained with no additional spread by sunset. The heavy air tanker dropped 8,300 gallons of retardant on the blaze, which has scorched 7,673 acres of forest north of Poudre Canyon about 10 miles west of Ted’s Place.

All evacuations of homes in Poudre Canyon were lifted and Colorado Highway 14 reopened as of 7 p.m. Motorists are asked to drive slowly and be alert for firefighters and emergency equipment in the area.
