Wellington Fourth of July fireworks a go — weather permitting

Wellington Fire Chief Gary Green anticipates the traditional fireworks display in Wellington will happen, as long as the weather cooperates. Members of the fire department will ignite the display on property on County Road 7 northeast of town. Firefighting brush trucks will stand by in case they are needed. The fireworks display is presented by the Wellington Volunteer Fire Department and the town of Wellington.

Green encourages citizens to enjoy the display and defer to experienced firefighters rather than attempting to create their own personal displays. In addition to the possibility of starting a fire, fireworks can cause burns and injuries from flying objects. Wellington has an ordinance that outlaws open burning in town.
