Wellington kids turn trash into art

Wellington kids know what to do with trash. Two of them recently won first place awards in Larimer County’s Trash Art Contest sponsored by Larimer County Solid Waste Department’s Garbage Garage Education Center. Participants were challenged to create a piece of art from a bag of scraps and trash items. Visitors to the Garbage Garage were asked to vote for their favorites.

Wesley Brewer took first place in the 6-12 age division with his “Steller City’s Abandoned Junk Yard,” and Will Brewer won in the 13-18 age category with his “Trash…Copter.” Elizabeth Morisette of Fort Collins won the adult division with her “Give a Hoot.”

Each winner received a prize bag of reusable and recycled goodies. The art will be on display through June at the Garbage Garage located at the Lartimer County Landfill, the Solid Waste Department’s award-winning waste and recycling center. Visitors are welcome on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. For more information visit www.larimer.org/solidwaste.
